Umeå Academy of Fine Arts / Project ‘07; The exhibition

2007-05-05 to 2007-05-20

Under the title Project ‘07; The exhibition the works of 15 newly graduated artists from their five years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Umeå. Paintings, drawings, digital images, photography and wallpaper are mixed with audio and video works. The graduation exhibition is both an opportunity to tie everything together and an opportunity for one last time to try something new within the framework of the school. Therefore several of this year’s exhibitors show both new and older works, some also presenting collaborative projects.

Participating: Jill Blomqvist, Aldis Ellertsdottir, Johan Hallberg, Isaskar Jerrhage, Tove Kleist, Andreas Kurtsson, Ylva Landoff Lindberg, Solveig Lindgren Inderbitzin, Lisa D Manner, Åsa Norberg, Mikael Näsström, Gustav Sparr, Radoslaw Stypczynski, Jennie Sundén and Helena Sundin.

The exhibition is neither a thematic group exhibition nor a collection of solo exhibitions, but rather a mix of both. Many works have points of contact with each other – overlapping in discipline and working methods, while at the same time the expressions are often highly individual and pull in different directions. The exposure of the normalised, fictionalisation of everyday life and the desire to bring order to a constant flow of information and memories are examples of themes found in several of the works.

This year’s graduation exhibition offers a wide variation of technology, manner of expression and themes. Painting, drawing, digital images, photography and wallpaper are mixed with audio and video installations. The of form presentation also reflects this.

The guest curator and catalogue editor is Kim Einarsson, Deputy Art Curator at Marabouparken Annex in Sundbyberg. The co-editor of the catalogue is the writer Rebecka Thor.
