Over the course of fifty years, Nancy Holt's rich output spanned concrete poetry, audio, film and video, photography, drawings, room-sized installations, earthworks, and public sculpture. Nancy Holt / Inside Outside details her unique and significant contributions, situating an important female voice within the narratives of land art and conceptual art. Through each of the mediums she worked in, Holt explored how we understand our place in the world by investigating perception and site.
In addition to extensive documentation of Nancy Holt’s works, the book includes texts by scholars Karen Di Franco and James Nisbet; curators Teresa Grandas, Lisa Le Feuvre, and Katarina Pierre; and two texts by Nancy Holt herself—a previously unpublished self-interview and a reflection on the ecological aspects of her work.
This new book is published to coincide with the eponymous exhibition at Bildmuseet in Umeå, which will travel to MACBA in Barcelona and further internationally.
