Down North

What topics, stories and challenges do the artists in the Arctic and the area around the North Atlantic have in common, especially considering the massive changes experienced in the region today? Areas which were earlier considered periphery are now leading the societal transformation which will be shaping our common future. This book is published in conjunction with the exhibition Down North / Contemporary Art in the Arctic, presenting 30 contemporary artists based in Denmark, Finland, the Faroe islands, Greenland, Iceland, Maine (USA), Norway, Sweden, the canadian costal areas, Sápmi and other indigenous nations in the Arctic, all investigating our time’s crucial questions and making art a catalyst for change.

The book presents texts by: Anders Jansson, Jaime DeSimone, Markús Þór Andrésson, Libby MacDonald Bischof, Andri Snær Magnasson och Åsa Össbo.
