Agnès Varda was a legend in French film. For instance, her film La Pointe Courte (1954) is regarded as the starting point for the French New Wave. At the time Varda was only 26 years old, and lacking any formal film training.
During her long and impressive carreer she worked with images, film and installations. Three different media and modes of expression, three dimensions which she combined, moved seamlessly in between, and put in dialogue with eachother. Agnès Varda never ceased to experiment and research, she did it with an open mind and without fear. It was always about the image: What does it do to us? What does it mean to us?
The catalogue was published in conjunction with Agnès Varda’s solo exhibition at Bildmuseet in 2013. With contributions by: Katarina Pierre, Julia Fabry, Érik Bullot, and Carol Mavor.
