A major international exhibition exploring how artists challenge the power dynamics behind artificial intelligence. Who really holds the power when AI enters our lives?
AI and the Paradox of Agency showcases artworks created over the past 25 years by 19 international artists and artist groups, from interactive games and immersive installations to sculptures and a hand-painted textile read by a drone. The exhibition reveals the critical role artists play in questioning how society might adapt to new technologies and in shaping humanity's thinking about a future with AI.
Participating artists include: boredomresearch (Vicky Isley, Paul Smith), Tega Brain, Dennis Delgado, Linda Dounia, Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg, Nicolas Gourault, Zeno Gries, Lawrence Lek, Rachel Maclean, Stephen Marche, Lauren Lee McCarthy, Florian Model, Yuri Pattison, Planetary Portals (Casper Laing Ebbensgaard, Kerry Holden, Michael Salu, Kathryn Yusoff), Raqs Media Collective (Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula, Shuddhabrata Sengupta), Daniel Shanken, Caroline Sinders & Romy Gad el Rab, Paola Torres Núñez del Prado, and Addie Wagenknecht.
The exhibition, produced by Bildmuseet at Umeå University, is curated by Sarah Cook and Katarina Pierre.
