Swedish Picture Book of the Year / Come Home Laila

2019-03-15 to 2019-09-08

In springtime every year, a jury selects the best Swedish picture book amongst last year's releases. This year, the prize goes to Eva Lindström's Kom hem Laila [Come home Laila], a warm and playful story about adventure and longing. Eva Lindström receives the award Friday 15 March during Littfest, Umeå International Literature Festival. During the Art Friday the same evening, Bildmuseet will open an exhibition showcasing the award winning picture book.

In the picture book Kom hem Laila, text lines full of promise interact with images of both lightness and gravity. In the prize jury's motivation it is described as a "picture book narrative capable of reducing text and image until a point where the mind can move freely."

The prize is an initiative by the association Krumelur - Association for Young Words in the North, in cooperation with Umeå Kultur, Kulturföreningen Pilgatan, Bildmuseet, Umeå University, the county library of Västerbotten, Littfest – Umeå International Literature Festival, Mid Sweden University and the Association of Swedish Illustrators and Graphic Designers.
