Signs of Conflict

2012-12-16 to 2013-02-03

The exhibition Signs of Conflict displays political posters that were produced by the various factions, political parties and movements in Lebanon between 1975 and 1990. The posters in Signs of Conflict unfold the narratives of the prevailing political conflicts while providing insights onto modern Arab visual culture.

Lebanon's civil war was complex an the warring factions were distinguished by local socio-economic and sectarian struggles. The political discourses were materialized in a plethora of political posters where the conflicting significations were expressed in graphic form and distinct aesthetic practices.

The exhibition is organised by Zeina Maasri, Associate Professor of Graphic Design at the American University of Beirut and author of Off the Wall. Political Posters of the Lebanese Civil War.
