What do we carry with us from the past – and what happens when we start writing about it? Welcome to a writing workshop exploring Sámi women’s histories, colonial experiences and our own stories.
Together, we will draw on historical material and the stories of women such as Elsa Laula, Kristina Laula and Karin Stenberg, exploring what their stories can evoke in us today.
We will write, read, talk and share feedback. You don’t need to be an experienced writer – what matters is that you are curious about writing and want to explore together with others.
The workshop is for you if you:
• want to explore Sámi women’s histories through writing
• want to explore your own experiences and perspectives
• enjoy writing, regardless of previous experience
• are interested in reading and working collectively with text

The workshop will be held in Swedish and is free.

There will also be an opportunity for digital feedback on 24 October. A selection of the texts will be published in a book in 2027.
The workshop is led by author Annica Wennström, who works with writing and storytelling, including with Tjállegoahte – Sámi Writers’ Centre
The workshop forms part of Nina Mangalanayagam’s artistic research project, “Call and Response as a Decolonial Method”, which focuses on Sweden’s colonial history on the Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy.
