Artist Maria Thereza Alves in conversation with curator Sofia Johansson. The conversation will mainly revolve around the artwork that the artist has created for the exhibition Ground Control, and about how her work is inspired by the article Decolonization is not a metaphor by Eve Tuck and K. Wayne Yang.
Maria Thereza Alves (b. 1961, Brazil, residing in Berlin and Naples) has, since the 1980s, been creating a body of work investigating the histories and circumstances of particular localities to give witness to silenced histories. In her relational art projects, Alves focuses on oppressed cultures and actively breaks with Western binary relationships such as those between nature and culture, art and politics or art and everyday life. Her research-based projects develop out of her interactions with people and places
