A unique exhibition where Bildmuseet as first museum ever outside South Africa can present a generous selection of highlights from South African National Gallery's (SANG) collections of contemporary South African art. This exhibition will only be showed at Bildmuseet in Umeå, Sweden.

The presentation consists of about 40 works by 30 artists, from 1985-2001, with a wide range of techniques and materials: painting, sculpture, video, animation, installation, social interaction etc...

Participating artists: Jane Alexander, Willie Bester, Willem Boshoff, Lisa Brice, Keith Dietrich, Marlene Dumas, David Goldblatt, Jackson Hlungwani, Gavin Jantjes, William Kentridge, David Koloane, Vivienne Koorland, Moshekwa Langa, Given Makhubele, Billy Mandindi, Kagiso Pat Mautloa, Brett Murray, Jackson Nkumanda, Malcolm Payne, Bernice Searle, Helen Mmakgabo Mmapula Sebidi, Johannes Segogela, Andrew Tshabangu, Jeremy Wafer, Sue Williamson, Gavin Younge, Sandile Zulu and Tito Zungu.

Curator Zola Mtshiza and Education Officer Voyile Voyiya from South African National Gallery in Cape Town will be working at Bildmuseet, giving introductions, workshops, and guided tours.
