Annie Ahl / Wall of Lovers

2001-06-10 to 2001-09-02

In summer 2000, artist Annie Ahl travelled to Hungary. In the town of Pécs, she found an iron fence that was cluttered with padlocks of different shapes and sizes, some with inscriptions. The padlocks had been secretly hung there by lovers.

The photograph of this spontaneously growing monument to love is projected at Bildmuseet onto a curtain of candlewick – a fragile, flammable material. Ahl describes Wall of Lovers: “I’ve worked to reproduce a place where humankind seeks a tangible expression of the great and the emotional.”

At Bildmuseet, she also displays the playfully sugar-sweet Beep-Show, a mechanically rotating jelly heart.

Annie Ahl (born 1965) worked in Umeå for many years, but has lived in Gävle since spring 2001.
