As a part of the programme for the exhibition Theatrical Fields Joan Jonas performed Reanimation with jazz pianist Jason Moran.
Joan Jonas is a pioneer within video art and performance. She often creates her works based on literary references and preferably in cross-boundary collaborations with other artists. Her latest project, Reanimation, is based on the novel Under the Glacier by the Icelandic author and Nobel prize winner Halldór Laxness. Together with jazz pianist Jason Moran she has created an improvisation of music, sound, movement and video.
Reanimation explores ideas about collages and animation and was originally developed for MIT in Cambridge USA where Joan Jonas holds a professorship.
The piece was presented by Bildmuseet in collaboration with Umeå Jazzfestival. It was performed during the festival, October 25th 2013.
Joan Jonas is also featured in a soloshow at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Stockholm this autumn. The exhibition runs from October 11, 2013 until January 26, 2014. Further information at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern's website.
