Swedish Picture Book of the Year / Eva Lindström's Apan och jag
Eva Lindströms Apan och jag har utsetts till 2011 års bästa svenska bilderbok. Originalbilderna till boken presenteras nu i en utställning på Bildmuseet.
In Apan och jag [Monkey and I], Eva Lindström tells a simple but clever story that contains both humour and strong emotions around breakups, anxiety and reunion. The text is written in tranquil rhyme, and the use of colour alternate between the pallor of everyday craziness and the hotter colouring of the rising emotions when jealous fantasies take shape. Eva Lindström develops her narrative in interaction with the reader, who always is kept aware of the real course of events by clues in the pictures.
The newly established prize Snöbollen - Swedish Picture Book of the Year is the only prize in Sweden that highlights the picture book as an artistic medium. It was presented for the first time in March 2012, during Littfest - Umeå International Literature Festival.
The Snöbollen prize is awarded by Krumelur - The Association for Young Words in Norrland, in collaboration with Umeå European Capital of Culture 2014, Astrid Lindgren's Foundation Solkatten, The culture association Pilgatan, regional libraries in Västerbotten and Västernorrland, Littfest - Umeå International Literature Festival, and Bildmuseet.
